  1. CONAN POSTER 2 - An acrylic painting on a 16 x 20 size canvas board. This is the 2nd of 3 Conan poster paintings I did for Fictioneer Books, Inc., in 1976. The painting is based on Robert E. Howard's Conan story, "Queen of the Black Coast". It also appears on the DJ of Howard's book, "Gardens of Fear".

We live in a hope-a-rama world where we grow up hoping to do something special, to be someone special. And most of us have the opportunity to be and to do just that. But what is rare in people is the actual wanting to do a specific thing with enough determination to actually do it. And that's because the world around us is filled with all kinds of distractions and people often choose to take the path of least resistance and direct their lives to just having fun.

But the "fun" people have often turns out to be silly nonsense and they grow up into adulthood and then into old age never knowing who they really were; they were born "special," with a special talent and would have done something outstanding, but they never made the effort to be that person because they were too busy having fun during their formative years and were later pressured to work at jobs of mindless routine. And sadly, if given the chance to escape from that kind of life they would only choose another job having a torpid routine. They never learn that having "fun" is a minor occurrence in life, what is far more important is having the joy and satisfaction of realizing what your special talent is, and using it to do something special.

Someone said, "I don't see what art has to do with real life!"
Someone else said, "Without art appreciation a life experience cannot be
    of the highest order!"

Which of the two statements fits your mindset?
